چکیده

Core network micro-mobility solutions resolve L3 handovers and may be based on the Internet Protocol (IP) or on Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS). When a micro-mobility solution triggers the L3 handover before the L2 handover, it is called predictive, otherwise reactive. The outage period due to the handover is smaller for predictive solutions. However, in order to be predictive, a L3 mobility solution needs support from the underlying link-layer. This support may be provided with the help of IEEE 802.21 that is exploited for intra-technology handovers in WLANs in this paper.

Mobility label based network: Hierarchical mobility management and packet forwarding architecture

Scalability of the network layer mobility management solution is one of the most important requirements for the mobility control plane. Mobility Label Based Network (MLBN) is a new approach to the network layer mobility management problem that relies solely on MPLS to provide both macroand micro-mobility for IPv4 and IPv6 mobile hosts and routers. This new approach does not rely on the existing...

Design and implementation of micro mobile MPLS for NS-2

In this paper, we extend NS-2 to simulate Micro-Mobile MPLS frameworks. The extension supports most of the important mechanisms used in the literature. The simulator is based on IEEE 802.11. The important mechanisms for IEEE 802.11 in our module are multi-channel, directional antennas, multiple interfaces, L2-handoff, L2-trigger, bicasting, pre-established LSP, and buffering mechanism. MPLS mod...

Mobile Mediator Control Function: An IEEE 802.21-based Mobility Management and Access Network Selection Model

Future users of mobile telephones and other handheld devices will benefit from a variety of wireless access networks including cellular networks, wireless LANs, and wireless MANs. Investments in new wireless infrastructures, new and changed use of radio spectrum, and built-in support for multiple radio access technologies in devices are driving forces behind this trend. The vision of Always Bes...

Support of micro-mobility in MPLS-based wireless access networks

In this paper, we propose an architecture for the MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching)-based micro-mobility management including label switched path setup, packet forwarding, handoff processing, and paging. In order to prevent packet loss during handoff, we propose two packet recovery mechanisms, namely: buffer time-based packet recovery and medium access control (MAC) layer assisted packet re...

An IEEE 802.21-based Universal Information Service

Increased mobility and a heterogeneous network environment result in mobile devices frequently connecting to new access networks about which they lack information. Providing information about those access networks, supported local services, and information about the current usage context could enable mobile devices to automatically adapt to their environment. Such selfadaptation significantly r...
